How to deal with social media bashing?

Around the Net July 29, 2016

The social media, since its inception, has been a channel through which persons and organizations around the world can post information, share information and post comments etc, as well as communicate with each other. The social media has its advantages and disadvantages which include social bashing, impersonation, crime aiding, among others.

Now, with respect to this article, we will deal in social media bashing, common reasons which people get bashed and how to guide oneself from it. But before we proceed, what is bashing?

Bashing simply means verbal abuse and harsh public criticism. In other words, it is the harsh, prejudicial attack on a group, person or subject. Now, combined with the term social media, it refers to as verbal abusive attacks towards persons or organizations via the social media.

Such social media bashing are facebook bashing, twitter bashing, YouTube bashing and others. Why we use social media is because it is a very powerful tool with its personal and professional advantages and why we have absolute control over our online presence, it is difficult to control other person’s comments about you online most especially if such comments are unpleasant and anyone can be the attacker or the basher.

When one is attacked, he feels very hurt as if the whole world is against him until he prove his innocence and if care isn’t taken, such bashing can damage one’s reputation for life, therefore it better for such person to make some clarifications/corrections about himself or his comments, mostly if he is taken out of context.

There are lots of reasons exists why people get bashed on social media, of which we will we will state briefly the major ones here. One top reason people get bashed is when they post statements that are misunderstood and taken out of context.

Here, the basher nor the poster is neither at fault, but if the poster sees that his viewer’s comments are becoming unbearable, he should try to clarify himself by the most detailed explanation of what he really means to avoid more damage to his person.

Secondly, one can get bashed if he posts unproven and unguided statements about events or persons without recourse on the social media. This could result in a serious legal case against the poster. Hence, it pays for one to do a thorough examination about anything before posting it on social media. He must post statements that he can back up with proofs anywhere, anytime.

Another reason for bashing occurs when one post pictures and videos that are offensive and provocative to the eye. Such pictures include pornographic stuff, videos showing mutilated body parts, human abusive videos, videos, and pictures showing brutal killings etc.

ON a final note, if you feel you are unjustly bashed or you feel one has posted any illegal comments or images, these social media sites have provided facilities that one can use to report any offensive images and harassing behaviors to them for proper addressing.
