The Cojuangco-Aquino Family is a famous political clan in the Philippines. The family is known to be rich and famous because of their rulings in the Hacienda Luisita, which is a large sugar plantation estate in the province of Tarlac. It was owned by the former President Corazon Conjuangco-Aquino and her family, and when she passed away the rights are passed on to her children under the leadership of the current president of the Philippines, Pres. Benigno S. Aquino III.
Going back to the history, the Cojuangco-Aquino is among the premier political clans in the Philippines. As a matter of fact, the clan has already produced two presidents of the republic of the Philippines, the late President Corazon Cojuangco Aquino and her son President Benigno S Aquino III, who is the present President of the country. The clan also produces numerous senators, congressmen, and mayors, and other local posts.
The Cojuangco-Aquino clan has a positive political reputation. Going back to the roots, Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. was a potential president of the country during the 1983 Martial Law. Unfortunately, he was assassinated and so his wife, the late President Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino was appointed by the people during the EDSA 1 Revolution. She was able to put an end on the regime of the dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
The symbolism of EDSA is a yellow ribbon, which signifies freedom of the Filipino people. Up until now, the yellow ribbon is associated with the political family of Cojuangco-Aquino. Political experts can attest that the Philippines is indeed the capital of political dynasty.
The Cojuangco-Aquino clan is just a simple example of political clan ruling the country. Some are elected because of their family names, but their will and determination to serve and help others truly define them as a leader. Everybody can make a stand in uplifting the country regardless of the political clan.
